Ethyleneamines are a class of organic compounds produced from the reaction of ethylene dichloride (EDC) with ammonia. The most common member is ethylenediamine (EDA), a colorless liquid with an ammonia-like odor. Others include diethylenetriamine (DETA) and triethylenetetramine (TETA). Ethyleneamines are widely used as precursors for chelating agents (EDTA), epoxy resin curing agents, lubricant additives, fungicides (Maneb, Zineb), polyamide resins, and in the pharmaceutical industry. They are strong bases and require careful handling due to corrosivity.
